The Yan Hui Model

Yan Hui is the most loved student by Confucius. According to The Analects and Shiji, we can see five aspects of Yan Hui.

One: He is the most diligent student of Confucius. He is a relentless learner. （有颜回者好学 … 不幸短命死矣。今也则亡，未闻好学者也。）

Two: He does not vent his anger on innocent people. （不迁怒）

Three: He does not make the error of the same kind twice. He can discover the wrong logic behind the error and correct it.（不贰过）

Four: He can endure extreme poverty with highest ideal in his heart and remain delightful. （“贤哉回也！一箪食，一瓢饮，在陋巷，人不堪其忧，回也不改其乐。贤哉，回也！”）

Five: He is the firmest believer and supporter of the aim of Confucius. （子贡出，颜回入见。孔子曰：“回，诗云“匪兕匪虎，率彼旷野”。吾道非邪？吾何为於此？”颜回曰：“夫子之道至大，故天下莫能容。虽然，夫子推而行之，不容何病，不容然後见君子！夫道之不脩也，是吾丑也。夫道既已大脩而不用，是有国者之丑也。不容何病，不容然後见君子！”孔子欣然而笑曰：“有是哉颜氏之子！使尔多财，吾为尔宰。”）
